Dental hygienists clean teeth, examine patients for signs of oral diseases such as gingivitis, and apply sealants and fluorides to help protect teeth. They must also learn to take and develop dental x-rays. The median annual wage for dental hygienists was $52,330 in 2015, while dental assistants average $37,500 per year. Phlebotomist Training Programs

Phlebotomists draw blood for tests, transfusions, research, or blood donations. Phlebotomy programs are available from community colleges, vocational schools, or technical schools. These programs usually take less than 1 year to complete, including classes in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and laboratory work, and lead to a certificate or diploma.

Further, phlebotomists must learn specific procedures on how to identify, label, and track blood samples. The National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), and the American Medical Technologists (AMT) offer Phlebotomy Technician certifications. The average annual salary for phlebotomists was $31,630 in May 2015, and employment of phlebotomists is projected to grow 25 percent over the next 10 years.

Technical programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year university, and you can earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. Financial Aid Information

Government scholarships and Pell grant applications, combined with academic scholarships, only account for a third of total college aid. Student loans, work-study earnings, and personal savings make up the remaining two-thirds. The official FAFSA website is fafsa.ed.gov and is free to use. The earliest that the FAFSA form can be filled out is January of a student's senior year. Academic scholarships are highly competitive, and are usually awarded either by the admissions office, or individual academic departments.

Most private loan programs are tied to one or more financial indexes, such as the BBA LIBOR Rate, plus an overhead charge. Financial aid may be administered through the Department of Education or your school's financial aid office. High school grades are the most important factor in gaining admission to the college of your choice, along with letters of recommendation. According to Community College of Philadelphia online education program, an ideal academic record consists of a high GPA in courses of progressive difficulty. The College Board Scholarship Search service advertises several thousand sources for possible scholarship funds. Some scholarships have a bond requirement. Recipients may be required to work for a specified period of time or to work in rural or remote areas.
