In dentistry, there are three fast-growing employment fields. Dental hygienist jobs may range from providing patient care, to record-keeping and scheduling appointments. Dental lab technicians construct, or repair, dentures and prosthetics. Dental hygienists clean teeth, examine patients for signs of oral diseases such as gingivitis, and apply sealants and fluorides to help protect teeth. They must also learn to take and develop dental x-rays. The median annual wage for dental hygienists was $52,330 in 2015, while dental assistants average $37,500 per year. Dental hygienist jobs are projected to grow 19% in the coming decade.

Dental hygienists need an associates degree in dental hygiene. The programs typically take 3 years to complete, and offer laboratory, clinical, and classes in anatomy, physiology, nutrition, radiography, pathology, and periodontics. All states require dental hygienists to be licensed, although requirements vary by state. The Commission on Dental Accreditation, part of the American Dental Association, has accredited more than 300 dental hygienist job programs.

EMT Training Programs

During the transport of a patient, one team member drives, while the other monitors the patient's vital signs, and gives additional care as needed to stabilize the patient. In ambulance crews, the paramedic is usually the senior officer, while the EMT may serve as a technical assistant. Incidents as varied as automobile accidents, heart attacks, childbirth, and gunshot wounds require critical intervention, and transport to a medical facility. In an emergency, paramedics respond to a 911 dispatch, often arriving at the scene prior to the police and fire fighters.

Formal courses are often combined with time in an emergency room or ambulance. Graduates of approved EMT-Basic training programs must pass a written and practical examination administered by the State licensing agency or the NREMT. Such education prepares the graduate to take the NREMT examination to become certified as a Paramedic. In addition to carrying out the procedures of the other levels, paramedics administer medications orally and intravenously, interpret electrocardiograms (EKGs), and use monitors and other complex equipment.

Technical programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year university, and you can earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. If you remain true to your career interests, via LA Valley College associates degree online, your overall job earnings will increase as you gain experience. If you're currently employed, you can take online technical education classes in your free time to advance your career. Massive Open Online Courses are known as MOOCs, utilizing interactive platforms such as Blackboard, and mobile apps. For example, Khan Academy now offers free lecture videos served through YouTube. Then there's Clark Atlanta University recording technology, with enrolled students from around the world.

Financial Aid Information

Government scholarships and Pell grant applications, combined with academic scholarships, only account for a third of total college aid. Student loans, work-study earnings, and personal savings make up the remaining two-thirds. The official FAFSA website is fafsa.ed.gov and is free to use. Many parents make mistakes when filling out the FAFSA information, including leaving some fields blank, spelling names wrong, and not entering social security numbers completely. The IRS suggests that parents maintain accurate financial statements, including tax forms and business records, for use when applying for student financial aid.

Student loans often carry an origination fee. Origination fees are a one-time charge based on the amount of the loan. Financial aid may be administered through the Department of Education or your school's financial aid office. High school grades are the most important factor in gaining admission to the college of your choice, along with letters of recommendation. According to Tougaloo College academic calendar, an ideal academic record consists of a high GPA in courses of progressive difficulty. The College Board Scholarship Search service advertises several thousand sources for possible scholarship funds. Some scholarships have a bond requirement. Recipients may be required to work for a specified period of time or to work in rural or remote areas.
