They must also learn to take and develop dental x-rays. The median annual wage for dental hygienists was $52,330 in 2015, while dental assistants average $37,500 per year. Cataract Surgery

A cataract is a clouding of the eye's lens that causes decreased vision. A cataract develops when some proteins clump together and starts to cloud an area of the lens. A cataract won't spread from one eye to the other, although many people develop cataracts in both eyes. As the cataract matures and gets cloudier, it may become difficult to read and do other normal tasks. A number of factors are known to contribute to the formation of cataracts, including aging, certain eye infections, and excessive exposure to bright sunlight.

Cataract surgery is usually done under local anesthesia, and most often takes less than one hour to remove the cloudy lens and replace it with an artificial one. There are two primary types of cataract-removal surgery. The first is Small Incision Cataract Surgery, where a tiny probe is inserted into the eye. The probe emits ultrasound waves that break up the cloudy lens into small fragments able to be removed by suction. The second type of cataract surgery is called is Extra-capsular Surgery, where an incision is made in the eye, and the hard center of the lens is removed.

Financial Aid Information

Government scholarships and Pell grant applications, combined with academic scholarships, only account for a third of total college aid. Student loans, work-study earnings, and personal savings make up the remaining two-thirds. The official FAFSA website is fafsa.ed.gov and is free to use. Filing taxes early is recommended, but using estimates for FAFSA from previous years is possible provided the correct data is updated later. The IRS suggests that parents maintain accurate financial statements, including tax forms and business records, for use when applying for student financial aid.

Most private loan programs are tied to one or more financial indexes, such as the BBA LIBOR Rate, plus an overhead charge. Financial aid may be administered through the Department of Education or your school's financial aid office. High school grades are the most important factor in gaining admission to the college of your choice, along with letters of recommendation. According to Stony Brook University psychology program, an ideal academic record consists of a high GPA in courses of progressive difficulty. The College Board Scholarship Search service advertises several thousand sources for possible scholarship funds. Local chapters of professional societies may offer academic scholarships to enable the studies of gifted students in their region or state.
